Administrators’ Technology

“Our solid administration service is underpinned by a proprietary IT system, which was developed in-house. Universal has the ability to develop new applications rapidly without reliance on third parties by virtue of the fact that we have a technology-enabled team in-house. ”

Medical scheme administration is a complex environment involving high volumes of transaction data. The ability to provide a robust, reliable technology solution, which operates accurately and efficiently is core to our offering.

Our solid administration service is underpinned by a proprietary IT system, which was developed in-house. Universal has the ability to develop new applications rapidly without reliance on third parties by virtue of the fact that we have a technology-enabled team in-house.

The system is scalable with excellent integration capabilities and compliant internal controls, which are audited annually by an independent audit firm.

The core functionality of the system has been tried and tested on the full spectrum of products ranging from “traditional” medical scheme products to “new generation” plans with medical savings and excess accounts for a number of years. The system also manages full capitation plans, partial capitation plans, hospital-only plans, and composite plans.

Fraud Hotline

Stamp out fraud by reporting it without delay!

Fraud has long been a major problem in South Africa and the healthcare arena is no exception. It is reported that fraud costs could make up as much as 20% of the total cost of all claims. If one considers that about R45 billion per year is spent on private healthcare then fraud could amount to R9 billion of this figure.

Effectively this means that the contributions to your medical scheme could be inflated by as much as 20%, which amounts to roughly R300.00 per month for an average family.

At Universal Healthcare Administrators we have zero tolerance for fraud.

To date we have been very successful in containing fraud with a system whereby we profile our members and practitioners and forward their information on to a private investigations unit. We have suspended payment to more than 100 healthcare practitioners pending investigative outcomes.

If you are aware of any fraudulent activity or have any information, please contact us on +27(0) 11 208-1381 or fax details to +27(0) 11 208-1199. All matters will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.
